What is a Brownfields Showcase Community?

Brownfields Showcase Communities are the flagship program of the federal brownfields initiative, launched by the National Brownfields Partnership to empower states, local governments, and other stakeholders in economic redevelopment to work together to assess, clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. The federal agencies participating in the Brownfields National Partnership offer special technical, financial, and other assistance to selected communities. The communities benefit directly from targeted technical and financial assistance. The Showcase Communities demonstrate successful brownfields activities, providing national visibility for a community’s brownfields efforts. Showcase Communities have been recognized for their innovative and successful approaches to addressing brownfields and serve as role models for other communities facing similar situations and challenges. NOAA Support of Brownfields Showcase Communities

NOAA has provided services ranging from technical assistance, marketing and outreach, financial assistance, and staff support in the Showcase Communities of Glen Cove, New York, Metlakatla, Alaska and New Bedford, Massachusetts.
